Introducing one of our newest puppies, Toby. This adorable puppy is so handsome. He has puppy energy and is looking forward to sharing his life with his forever family – get ready to fall in love.
Toby was a surrender from a family in Garland TX (a suburb of Dallas). They had been breeding Chihuahuas and were overwhelmed. The family found themselves with over 15 Chihuahuas, and had them all living in the backyard. These were in danger in the Texas heat. Poor things were covered with fleas and had really long nails when we got them. To date, CRT has rescued five Chihuahuas from the home, and are working on the rest. The litter that Toby came from consisted of Mom Dolly and three puppies – Freckles, Sundae and Toby – 2 girls and 1 boy. All family members are doing great and will be ready for adoption in early November. We are taking applications now.
Toby is growing up with his sisters Freckles and Sundae in a foster home. He gets along well with other small dogs. Toby has puppy energy and loves to run and tumble with his sisters. He plays hard, then crashes for a team nap – all curled up in the same puppy bed! Toby also loves toys. His favorites are the small squeaky fluffy toys and small nylabones. He is hoping his forever family has a big budget for toys.
Toby adores his human family. He comes running when they are around, wanting to be picked up and cuddled. Then he is down on the floor again with his sisters for more fun and playing! Toby has a laid back personality. When you are holding him, he will lay his head on your neck and shoulder. It melts our hearts! This guy will make a great snuggle buddy. Toby will follow you from room to room to make sure he does not miss any family activity. Note that he can occasionally get under your feet as he is following you around and can be a tripping hazard. This is a normal behavior in puppies and we are working with him on this. But his adopting family will want to be aware.
Toby and his siblings were born on July 18, 2024, making them about 11 weeks old as of early October. He just weighed in at 5.5 pounds at his latest check in, and he is still growing. His Mom is 8 pounds and his Dad was about 7 pounds. So we believe all the puppies will end up in the 7 – 8 pound range when fully grown. He has a golden tan and white coat. He also has floppy ears and beautiful eyes. And he has the sweetest spirit.
Toby’s ideal home will be one with a high activity level. He would love to have another small dog (maybe 1 – 4 years old) to play with. He may be a good only dog too, as long as his family is around alot to pay a lot of attention to him. Toby will need a family who can check on him every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days). He would be great in a home where there’s a great deal of activity and people were home a lot. Toby does not bark much at this age. He is growing up with a 10 year old human sister and adores her. He is great with children and will make a great family dog.
Toby has done well with his potty training. He will potty on washable, indoor potty pads with only the occasional accident that can be easily managed. He has recently completed his second round of vaccinations, and we are now beginning to potty train him outside. He is super smart – his foster home has a doggy door and he learned how to use it in 24 hours. He will now use the doggy door (under supervision) to go potty outside. At night, Toby sleeps in a doggie bed inside an ex-pen with his siblings. We have waited to train him on a harness and leash because of his vaccination status, so this has not begun at this time.
We adore this little boy, and know there is a perfect family out there for him. If you love to have fun and then cuddle, Toby wants to be your BFF. His vet work will be completed in late October and he will be ready for his forever home at that time. We are accepting applications now.
