Introducing adorable Roxy. We love this sweet puppy and know you are going to fall for her too.
In mid-June, CRT was contacted about helping a family who was breeding Chihuahuas. The man was ill and was in the hospital. His family had checked in on the latest litter and found them covered with fleas and not doing well. The family immediately reached out for help. Thanks to our amazing volunteer team, CRT was able to get them transported the two hours to the Dallas area. We put them into CRT foster homes, gave them flea baths, got them to the vet, and began their journey. The puppies from this litter are Madeline, Roxy, Rocco, Rocket (approved application) and Lylia (approved application). All five puppies are thriving in their foster homes. They will complete their vet work the last week of August and be ready for adoption the first week of September.
Roxy gets along with other small dogs in her foster home. Roxy is fascinated with her “big sisters” and follows them everywhere. She has a lot of energy and loves to run and play with them. She also loves to cuddle with them. Roxy loves toys of all kinds. She hopes her new family has a big toy budget!
Roxy loves going outside and exploring the yard. Note that Roxy is small and therefore will always need her human nearby while she is out (there are instances where hawks or large birds will swoop down and pick up small dogs under 5 pounds, so you will want to be there to protect Roxy). We also want to emphasize that your fence must be very secure. Roxy is so tiny that she can easily slip under the smallest opening in a fence, so she will need to be in a home with a solid, wooden fenced yard. Roxy loves to run and explore, so her home will need to be secure in all aspects. She can also be a door darter, so your front door area should be inforced to stop potential escapes (she loves to explore and she is fast – she can be out the door in a flash).
Roxy adores her humans. She is a little shy when she first meets you, but warms up quickly. She loves to cuddle and will climb into your lap for snuggles and puppy kisses. Roxy loves to follow you around the house to see what you are working on. Whatever it is, she wants to be a part of it. Note that she is very active and loves to be right by your feet, so could be a tripping hazard! She is so sweet.
Roxy is about 3 months old (as of the end of July). She is 3.7 pounds and will grow another 1-2 pounds. Roxy has a beautiful white coat with black and tan highlights. We love the black and tan mask on her face. And oh those floppy ears – currently one ear up and one ear down!
Roxy is very smart. She is a puppy and is learning every day. Roxy has done well on her potty training. She has learned to go potty outside and also will use the PeePee pads in her foster home. At night, Roxy sleeps in a doggie bed in a small confined area. Due to her vaccination status, we have not begun to leash train her. Once we complete her shots, we will put a harness on her and begin to teach her how to walk on a leash.
The ideal home for Roxy would be one with high energy. She would love to have another young dog (maybe 1-3 years) to play with. Applications will not be considered where she would be the only dog. Roxy and her brother Rocco are very bonded and we would love to find a family who would adopt them together. We Due to her small size, we do not recommend large dogs as a companion with Roxy. Roxy needs a family who can check on her every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days). She does alert when she plays but settles down fairly quickly. Roxy is growing up with a 14 year old human sister and adores her. Due to her small size and shyness, we recommend a home with older, mature children (8 and older).
