Introducing adorable Poppy. This girl is small and soft. The name Poppy is of a Latin and Old English origin and is named after a popular flower known for its bright and delicate petals. This fits our girl to a tee – she has such a pleasant and sweet personality – get ready to fall in love.
Poppy was an owner surrender. Her original owner is very ill and has been in and out of the hospital. She no longer could care for Poppy and wanted the best possible future for her. So she reached out to CRT to ask if we could help find her a forever home. We are happy to help, and are praying for good health and recovery for her owner.
Poppy gets along well with the other small dogs in her foster home. She is submissive and relaxed around her foster siblings. Poppy enjoys hanging around and enjoys the other dogs’s company. We are impressed with how easily she has fit in. She also enjoys time alone each day as she relaxes in her soft dog bed and watches the day unfold around her. She LOVES snuggling under blankets. If you cannot find her, call her name and you will likely see blankets begin to wiggle just before she pops her head out! Poppy is just beginning to show curiosity with toys. Poppy also loves the sun and enjoys exploring the yard. She really loves chasing the squirrels in the backyard and does it with gusto!
Poppy adores her human family. Poppy is a champion cuddler and wants to be in someone’s arms all the time! She loves nuzzling against your face while in your arms and will quickly fall asleep in your arms. If she is down on the floor, she is looking for the next lap to crawl into! If you are sitting down, she will quickly climb onto your lap. She will quickly curl up and sleep on your lap quietly for hours as you work or watch TV. Poppy will follow you from room to room so she does not miss any family activity. Note that she can sometimes get under your feet and may be a tripping hazard if you are not careful.
Poppy is about 4 years old. She is a perfect 8 pounds, and is fully grown. Poppy is a Chihuahua / Yorkie mix. She has a soft and curly black and white coat. She has amazing ears. And she has the sweetest spirit.
Poppy’s ideal home will be one with a moderate to high activity level. She would be fine as an only dog, or would do well with another small dog to hang out with. Poppy needs a family who can check on her every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days). She would be great in a home where there’s a great deal of activity and people were home a lot. Poppy does bark when she meets new people or at anything she thinks is suspicious, but settles down fairly quickly. She would make a great watch dog as nothing will sneak past her! Because of her barking, she is not apartment appropriate. There are no children in her foster home, but we think she will do well in a home with older, mature children (10 and older).
Poppy is potty trained. She taught herself to use the doggy door in her foster home within 24 hours. She will also use pee pee pads as a backup. At night, she loves to sleep with her family. She cuddles under the blanket and is out for the night. She is excellent at walking on a harness and leash and enjoys family walks.
We adore this girl, and know there is a perfect family out there for her. If you love to cuddle, Poppy wants to be your BFF.
