Introducing sweet Maggie. The name Maggie is of Greek origin and means “pearl”. This is such a great name for this little girl. She has a shiny black coat with brown undertones and it literally shines. It makes her look like a valuable black pearl. What a beauty.
Maggie was a stray found in Houston by a Good Samaritan. She had no collar, tags or microchip. After a one month search for owners, the Good Samaritan reached out for rescue help. Maggie was VERY pregnant, and about to have puppies at any time. Our Dallas rescue community worked together to save her. Thank you to Amy with Fur The Love of Paws, Heidi with Mini Mutts, and our entire CRT volunteer team for linking arms to save this girl. Amy made the 10 hour round trip to bring her to us in Dallas. She was immediately placed in a CRT foster home and a few days later gave birth to 6 healthy puppies. She was a great Mom, but her Mom duties are now over! She is now completely vetted, healthy, and time for her to find her forever home.
Maggie’s energy is pretty high. Her favorite playmate is the foster family’s lab mix. They run and chase each other around the yard doing zoomies, play tug o’ war and play and play! Maggie plays with gusto, so we recommend tougher toys for her. She enjoys the soft and squeaky ones too, but thinks the stuffing is for her to remove! LOL. She’s strong for a 20# dog, so she can hold her own with the bigger dogs. She still likes to chew a bit, so will need to be monitored for a few more months while the puppy in her continues to mature.
Maggie is super sweet and smart. She loves her foster family and loves to cuddle. She also loves belly rubs. This girl enjoys your company and would love an active family to play with and then snuggle with at night. She is house trained – she will go outside and also use potty pads. There is a doggy door in her foster home and she has learned to use that when her foster family is around to supervise. Maggie is crate trained and will sleep soundly throughout the night. We have not begun to train her on a leash and harness, but we think she would love daily walks or even jogging. She is athletic and enjoys time with you.
Our vet estimates that Maggie is about 1 1/2 years old. She is 20 pounds, which is a good weight for her. Maggie has a beautiful black coat with brown highlights. It literally shines in the light. She also has a few white markings on her chest. We did a DNA test on Maggie and the results are back! Maggie is 26% Chihuahua, 30% American Staffordshire Terrier, 13% Poodle (Toy and Miniature), 10% American Pit Bull Terrier, 8% Chinese Char-Pei, and then 13% of other breeds! All of these breeds all up to 100% adorable!
Maggie’s ideal home will be one with a high activity level. She would love to have another active dog to play with. Applications will not be considered where she will be the only dog. Maggie will need a family who can check on her every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days). She would be great in a home where there’s a great deal of activity and people are home a lot and have a big yard. Maggie does not bark much, but she will bark at the garbage truck and the squirrels! There are no children in her foster home, but we think she would do well with children 10 and older.
We adore this girl, and know there is a perfect family out there for her. If you are an active family, love to have fun and then cuddle, Maggie wants to be your BFF.
