Introducing Ginger. Ginger has a beautiful golden / reddish long coat that flows. She has a gentle soul and is looking for an experienced dog family who will love her, help her feel safe and give her a forever home to grow up in.
Ginger was spotted as a stray in Arlington TX. She had been running in a neighborhood for weeks, but was too frightened to come to people. A wonderful dog rescuer helped safely trap Ginger so she could be brought to safety. She had no collar and no microchip. After weeks of looking for the owners, Ginger was surrendered to CRT.
Ginger gets along with the other small dogs in her foster home. She will initiate play, although her siblings are not into playing a lot! She will also play with toys a little. She blends into the pack, and into the household routine. Ginger would be fine in a pack, but we also think she would love to be the only dog where she could get all the love from her family. Ginger is afraid of large dogs, so she needs to be in a home with dogs 10 pounds or smaller.
Ginger wants to be loved so much. We wish she could tell us her story, because she obviously has had some trauma in her first 1 1/2 years of life. Ginger is afraid of men. She is also afraid of loud noises and yelling. She will run and put herself into her crate which is her “safe place”. It breaks our heart to know that humans have failed her in these early years. Our amazing foster family has stood in the gap for her, and Ginger is beginning to realize that a human family can be amazing. We are looking for an experienced family to adopt her – one that will be patient and will give her her time to build confidence.
After a few days of decompressing, Ginger decided that her foster Mom was amazing! They are best buddies now. Ginger loves snuggling and belly rubs. She will sit in your lap and let you pet her for hours! Ginger follows her foster Mom everywhere, and is super attentive in the kitchen as meals are being prepared as Ginger loves food – LOL. Note that Ginger can be a tripping hazard as she is constantly around your feet.
Our vet believes Ginger is about 1.5 years old. She weighs a perfect 6.5 pounds. Ginger has a beautiful reddish tan long coat with white highlights. When Ginger came to CRT, we noticed she was limping on her back leg. Our vet diagnosed a luxating patella, so we had corrective surgery done. Ginger has healed nicely and now runs zoomies around the house with her completely healed knee. She is definitely feeling better! Note that her new family will want to keep her weight in her ideal range as extra weight could stress her knee over time.
Ginger has a mellow personality and is quiet (she rarely barks). We are requesting an all adult home with experienced adopters for her forever home. Because of her earlier living condition, Ginger was not totally socialized. So she is a little shy and takes some time to trust. She gets nervous in new situations and may even get startled. Ginger can be afraid of sudden loud noises. She will just need someone to understand that and help her to feel comfortable as she settles in to your home.
We also want to emphasize that your fence must be very secure. Ginger is so tiny that she can easily slip under the smallest opening in a fence, so she will need to be in a home with a solid, wooden fenced yard. Ginger loves to run and explore, so her home will need to be secure in all aspects. Ginger can be a door darter, so her forever home will want to have a protective barrier around the front door.
Ginger is smart. She loves treats and will “sit” for a treat. Ginger has done well on her potty training. She will go on pee pee pads. She also follows the other dogs outside to potty. Ginger is comfortable in a crate but we leave the door open on her crate so she has access to potty pads during the night. Ginger will sleep in her crate or on a doggie bed in one of the rooms. During the day, she can often be found snoozing patiently awaiting the next adventure! We have been taking Ginger on walks with her harness and leash. While she enjoys them, she will only go a short distance. She then sits down, looks up at you and says “I’m tired, will you carry me home” – LOL. She also is good in the car.
