Meet one of our newest CRT puppies – Franklin.
Ginger and her 8 puppies were surrendered to CRT when their family could not take care of them. Franklin is one of the eight puppies (other puppies are Bernie, June, Betty, Alice, Pearl, Daisy and Grace). The puppies were born on Jan 18th, 2025. The puppies were only two weeks old when surrendered, but have thrived in CRT’s care. Thank you to our loyal foster families for caring for Ginger and all her puppies!
The puppies are now weaned, eating on their own and have just completed their first set of puppy vaccinations in early March. They will have round two of vaccinations in early April. Then will have their third round of vaccinations in early May and also get spayed/neutered and microchipped at that time. They will then be ready to be adopted into their forever homes. We are taking applications now.
Franklin was born on January 18, 2025. He weighed a little over 1 pound at his 6 week vet appointment and continues to grow. We are not sure how large the puppies will get. His Mom is about 12 pounds and we have no idea who the Dad is. We did have a DNA kit donated by a sweet supporter. The DNA results are in! The puppies are 43% Chihuahua, 18% Shih Tzu, 11% Poodle (Toy/Miniature) and 8% Dachshund. They are definitely 100% perfect! The DNA kit projects their fully grown weight to be 9-18 pounds, which aligns with the Mom’s size. The health results show “clear”. Franklin has a beautiful tri-color coat (black with tan and white highlights). He has cute floppy ears. The DNA results say he is likely to maintain his floppy ears and have short legs when fully grown.
Franklin is a sweet puppy. He is in a foster home with another sibling and loves to play. Because of his vaccination status, we are currently training him to potty on potty pads (we begin outside training after round two of vaccinations). At night he sleeps in a doggy bed inside of an ex-pen with his sibling.
The ideal home for Franklin would be one with high energy. He would love to have another young dog (maybe 1-3 years) to play with. Applications will not be considered where he would be an only dog. He needs a family who can check on him every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days). Because of his love of family and attention, he would love to live with a work-from-home family. There are no children in his foster home but Franklin loves people and we think he would do well with children 10 and older.
Franklin is being fostered in the Dallas-Fort Worth (Texas) area. Our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/
Franklin will be neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention. Vet work is scheduled to be completed in mid-May, and he will then be ready for adoption. We are accepting applications now.
This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $350.00 adoption donation required.
As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.
After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog.
