Meet one of our newest CRT puppies – Alex.
In early March, CRT was asked to help a family who had over 30 small dogs in their home. They had been trying to care for them, but were overwhelmed and needed help. To date, CRT has rescued 5 of these dogs and has worked with other rescues to help with others. Alex and his brother Simba are two of the dogs we have helped. They are long coat puppies. (Note we also rescued their Mom and Dad – so the entire family). The puppies were born on Jan 18th, 2025. The puppies are thriving in CRT’s care. Thank you to our loyal foster families for caring for this little family and not leaving any of them behind!
Alex and Simba have just completed their first set of puppy vaccinations in mid March. They will have round two of vaccinations in mid April. Then will have their third round of vaccinations in mid May and also get neutered and microchipped at that time. They will then be ready to be adopted into their forever homes. We are taking applications now.
Alex was born on January 18, 2025. He weighed a little over 3 pounds at his 8 week vet appointment and continues to grow. We are not sure how large the puppies will get. His Mom was a white long coat Chihuahua and was 8 pounds. His Dad was a red and white short coat Chihuahua who is about 9 pounds. So we believe they will be about 8-10 pounds when fully grown.
Alex has a fluffy long coat that is mixed with red, black and tan. He looks like a little lion. So we named him Alex after the lion in the movie Madagascar. His coat is so soft. You literally want to bury your face into him every time you pick him up! Alex has the cutest face and floppy ears.
Alex is a sweet puppy with puppy energy. He is in a foster home with his sibling Simba and loves to play. Because of his vaccination status, we are currently training him to potty on potty pads (we begin outside training after round two of vaccinations). At night he sleeps in a doggy bed inside of an ex-pen with his sibling.
The ideal home for Alex would be one with high energy. He would love to have another young dog (maybe 1-3 years) to play with. Applications will not be considered where he would be an only dog. If you do not have another dog, please consider Simba too. These boys would love to grow up together. Alex needs a family who can check on him every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days). Because of his love of family and attention, he would love to live with a work-from-home family. There are no children in his foster home but Alex loves people and we think he would do well with children 10 and older.
Alex is being fostered in the Dallas-Fort Worth (Texas) area. Our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/
Alex will be neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention. Vet work is scheduled to be completed in mid-May, and he will then be ready for adoption. We are accepting applications now.
This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $350.00 adoption donation required.
As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.
After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
