Joy is a large Chihuahua mix, estimated to be between 10 and 12 years old, who has found her forever place as a beloved hospice dog. Weighing 20 pounds, she prefers a relaxed lifestyle, spending most of her time enjoying the warmth and comfort of home. While she is friendly, she is initially reserved and needs time to build trust with new people.
Joy has a deep love for belly rubs, snuggles, and, most of all, food. However, due to a history of starvation, she tends to overeat if not closely monitored. She is easily startled by loud noises and has a strong fear of children. Though she gets along well with most dogs, she does not tolerate cats.
Her journey has been one of resilience and love. Initially, she came to stay for just a week, arriving emotionally fragile from past trauma. After an unsuccessful adoption attempt where she completely shut down, it became clear that her true home was here. Now a permanent member of the family, she continues to thrive in a safe and loving environment, where every day is cherished.
Joy remains in relatively good health but struggles with being overweight, requiring careful portion control. She is house-trained and knows basic commands, though she is only partially crate-trained, as crates make her anxious.
Joy’s story is one of perseverance, trust, and the healing power of love. She has found the comfort and care she deserves, and her days are filled with the peace and security she once lacked.
