Louie’s journey with Chihuahua Rescue and Transport (CRT) began when a distressed woman reached out for help. She needed to surrender her 3-year-old Chihuahua because he spent most of his time confined to a crate, and whenever she tried to let him out, he would react aggressively. Hoping to give him a better life, she turned to CRT.
Upon arriving at his foster home, Louie hesitantly stepped out of his crate—and immediately began spinning in circles. His unusual behavior and unpredictability raised concerns, prompting a veterinary evaluation. After an initial exam, Louie was referred for an MRI, which revealed heartbreaking news—he had hydrocephalus, a neurological condition, along with a brain cyst. In addition, he suffered from seizures. His constant spinning and aggression suddenly made sense—he had been living in chronic discomfort.
From that moment forward, Louie’s journey to healing began. He was prescribed multiple medications to manage his condition and now requires ongoing bloodwork and close veterinary monitoring.
Today, at seven years old, Louie is doing as well as possible. Though he still experiences seizures, his overall well-being has improved significantly. While he coexists peacefully with other dogs and foster pups, he does not actively engage in play. His neurological condition gives him an endearing little march when he walks, and he has perfected the art of being spoiled. He enjoys walks, playing with toys, and, surprisingly, munching on green vegetables! Once afraid of walking on bare floors, he now scurries across them with confidence.
Thanks to CRT, Louie was given a second chance at life. Once his pain was identified and managed, he transformed into a much happier dog. His story is a testament to the incredible impact of rescue, medical care, and unconditional love.
