Introducing one of our newest fosters, Luka.
Luka was found lost in Plano TX (a suburb of Dallas) eating out of a dumpster. He had no collar and no microchip. A Good Samaritan kept him safe as they searched for an owner for three weeks. When no owner could be found, they asked CRT to bring him into our program and help him find a forever family.
Luka gets along with other small dogs in his foster home. He loves to run, play and wrestle with them. When he is done playing, he will snuggle in for a team nap. Luka has begun playing with toys. He favorite so far is his nylabone.
Luka is super sweet but is shy when he first meets you. Once he knows he is safe with you, he quickly becomes your BFF. He loves to sit in your lap. He loves belly rubs. Luka loves giving kisses. It is as if he is saying “I can’t believe the life I now have with you and I want to kiss you over and over to thank you”. He will also follow you from room to room to make sure he does not miss any fun. This is a loyal little guy.
Luka is smart. He has done very well on his potty training and will go outside and also use potty pads. He will have an occasional accident when left alone for extended periods, so his new family will want to keep him on a regular potty schedule. Luka sleeps in his doggie bed in an ex-pen at night. We are just beginning to work with him on a harness and leash.
Our vet believes that Luka is about 1 year old. He weighs 6.3 pounds and is fully grown. Luka has a beautiful long apricot (very light tan) colored coat. And he has blue eyes! We love his ears and his sweet face.
Luka’s ideal home will be one with a moderate activity level. He would love to have another small dog (maybe 1 – 4 years old) to play with. We also think he would make a great only dog as long as his family was around to pay attention to him. Luka will need a family who can check on him every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days). He would be great in a home where there’s a great deal of activity and people were home a lot. Luka does bark at new noises, so we are not sure he would be good in an apartment. There are no children in his foster home, but we think he will do well with older, mature children (13 and older). Due to his small size and shy nature, we do not recommend homes with large dogs.
We adore this little boy, and know there is a perfect family out there for him. If you love to have fun and then cuddle, Luka wants to be your BFF. His vet work will be completed in early March, and he will be ready for his forever home at that time. We are accepting applications now.
Luka is being fostered in the DFW (Texas) area. If this sweet guy sounds like the right fit for your home, our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/
Luka is neutered, micro chipped, up-to-date on shots, HW negative and on heartworm prevention. He will be ready to join a loving family in early March – could that family be yours?
