Meet Mazie. Mazie is an adorable Chihuahua mix with a soft coat. She is a sweet girl who wants to share her love with you.
Mazie is an owner surrender to CRT. Her family had her since she was a puppy, but is going through some complicated medical issues and found themselves unable to care for her. One of their top priorities was making sure Mazie would be safe and have a loving family. They reached out to CRT to help, and we were happy to bring Mazie into our program.
Mazie adores her family. She craves human love and affection. Mazie definitely identifies as lap dog. She loves to be in a lap most of all, but she will lie down near her people and nap on the floor at their feet or in a dog bed while they work. You’ll never find a dog who looks more adoringly at you than Mazie! Mazie wants to be with you so much that she will follow you from room to room. She does not want to miss out on any family fun. Note she can be a tripping hazard. We are working with her on this, but want her adopting family to be aware.
We believe Mazie would do well as the only dog in the home so she could get all the love and attention! She does ok with the other dogs in her foster home, but typically ignores them. She does do an occasional zoomie run with them, but then she is back to just hanging with her humans. When Mazie was first adjusting to her foster home, she seemed to get jealous of human attention with the other dogs in the home. This is improving as time has passed. If you have other dogs, Mazie would need supervision, patience, and lots of reassurance to get familiar with other dogs in the home. So we think it would be best for her, and best for the adopting family if she was an only dog. Note she is obsessed with chasing squirrels so we don’t think she would do well with cats.
Mazie is smart! She has learned how to “sit” for treats (and oh how she loves treats). She will also dance on her back legs when she wants attention. She has done great with her potty training. She will go potty outside and she will also use potty pads. Mazie is not fond of crates and will bark and bark if you try to crate her. Her favorite place to sleep in in bed with her family so she can cuddle up close to them. Mazie does do well on a harness and leash and enjoys daily walks.
Mazie is about 5 years old. She weighs 9 pounds. Mazie has a beautiful, fluffy white and black coat. She a Chihuahua mix (Chihuahua and Shih Tzu). She has the cutest floppy ears. CRT did have a complete dental done on Mazie so her teeth are white and pretty.
The ideal home for Mazie would be one with moderate energy. We think she would be best as an only dog because her favorite thing is hanging with her humans and getting lots of snuggles and love. Mazie does need a family who can check on her every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works away from home 10-12 hours a day). Mazie loves to sit by the picture window and watch the world go by. She will alert if she see the neighborhood dogs walking on “her sidewalk”, but settles down quickly. She is not used to being around small children. We recommend and all adult home or a home with older children (maybe teenagers)
