NAME: Jen
GENDER: Female (Spayed)
AGE: About 8 years old
WEIGHT: About 7 pounds
DOGS/CATS: Good with other small dogs, Good with cats
CHILDREN: Should do well with children 10 and older
Meet one of our newest fosters – Jen. Jen is sweet, and has a quiet personality. Jen was surrendered to CRT when her owners could no longer care for her. She is a great little girl and we are so happy to have her in our program. Jen is mellow and just wants to be loved. She is going to make an amazing family member for someone!
Jen has a gentle soul but has been a bit shy when she first arrived in her foster home. Jen is very quiet and reserved. As she has settled in, her personality has begun to come out more and more. We are falling in love with this sweetheart! However, she does not know how to come when called so she can be sneaky to catch. It’s like she doesn’t understand what “good” could come from being in your loving arms. She is easy going and loves belly rubs and affection. She enjoys being next to you on the couch.
Jen gets along with the other small and medium dogs in her foster home. She is submissive and relaxed around her foster siblings. Jen does not play with them, but she hangs around and enjoys their company. We are impressed with how easily she has fit in. She also enjoys time alone each day as she relaxes in her soft dog bed and watches the day unfold around her. Jen loves the sun and enjoys laying outside. We have not seen her play with toys yet. Jen would be fine in a pack, but we also think she would love to be the only dog where she could get all the love from her family.
Our vet estimates that Jen is about 8 years old. She weighs about 7 pounds which is a perfect weight for her. Jen has a pretty white coat with tan highlights. We love her floppy ears. And her face has the sweetest expression. When we received Jen, we noticed she needed a dental. We did pre-dental bloodwork on her, which was perfect. Unfortunately there weren’t many good teeth and she now only has three left. But eating is not a problem! Thank you to everyone who donated through “Giving Tuesday” – your contributions paid for her dental! This is a healthy and happy girl with an adorable tongue-out look.
The perfect home for Jen would be one that has a moderate to low activity level. She would do well as an only dog, as long as her family was around to spend time with her. She would also do well with another small dog to hang out with. She would make a great quiet home office dog. She is not a big barker. Jen does need a family who can check on her every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works away from home 10-12 hours a day). We think she would do well with mature children (10 and older).
We also want to emphasize that your fence must be very secure. Jen is so tiny that she can easily slip under the smallest opening in a fence, so she will need to be in a home with a solid, wooden fenced yard. No chain link as she can climb. Jen can be a door darter, so her forever home will want to have a protective barrier around the front door.
Jen has done well with her potty training. She will go both outside and use potty pads. We currently let her out to potty several times a day. She is crate trained and will sleep in her crate at night to sleep. She would also probably love to sleep in bed with you if you would let her. We have not tested her on a leash and harness yet.
