Introducing one of our newest puppies, Sundae. This adorable tri-color puppy’s coloring looks exactly like an ice cream sundae. And we promise you that she is just as sweet!
Sundae was a surrender from a family in Garland TX (a suburb of Dallas). They had been breeding Chihuahuas and were overwhelmed. The family found themselves with over 15 Chihuahuas, and had them all living in the backyard. These were in danger in the Texas heat. Poor things were covered with fleas and had really long nails when we got them. To date, CRT has rescued five Chihuahuas from the home, and are working on the rest. The litter that Sundae came from consisted of Mom Dolly and three puppies – Freckles, Sundae and Toby – 2 girls and 1 boy. All family members are doing great and are ready for adoption.
Sundae is growing up with her sister Freckles and her brother Toby in a foster home. She gets along well with other small dogs. Sundae has puppy energy and loves to run and tumble with her siblings. She is adventurous. She plays hard, then crashes for a team nap – all curled up in the same puppy bed! Sundae also loves toys. Her favorites are the small squeaky fluffy toys and small nylabones. She is hoping her forever family has a big budget for toys.
Sundae adores her human family. She comes running when they are around, wanting to be picked up and cuddled. Then she is down on the floor again with her siblings for more fun and playing! Sundae has an outgoing and loving personality. She loves lap time. It melts our hearts! This little girl will make a great snuggle buddy. Sundae will follow you from room to room to make sure she does not miss any family activity. Note that she can occasionally get under your feet as she is following you around and can be a tripping hazard. This is a normal behavior in puppies and we are working with her on this. But her adopting family will want to be aware.
Sundae and her siblings were born on July 18, 2024, making them about 16 weeks old as of mid-November. She just weighs about 7 pounds. Her Mom is 8 pounds and her Dad was about 7 pounds. So we believe all the puppies will end up in the 7 – 8 pound range when fully grown. She has a beautiful tri-color coat: black, tan and white. She also has floppy ears and beautiful eyes. And she has the sweetest spirit.
Sundae’s ideal home will be one with a high activity level. She would love to have another small dog (maybe 1 – 4 years old) to play with. She may be a good only dog too, as long as her family is around a lot to pay a lot of attention to her. Sundae will need a family who can check on her every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days). She would be great in a home where there’s a great deal of activity and people were home a lot. Sundae does not bark much at this age. She is growing up with a 10 year old human sister and adores her. She is great with children and will make a great family dog.
Sundae has done well with her potty training. She will potty on washable, indoor potty pads with only the occasional accident that can be easily managed. She has recently completed her second round of vaccinations, and we are now beginning to potty train her outside. She is super smart – her foster home has a doggy door and she learned how to use it in 24 hours. She will now use the doggy door (under supervision) to go potty outside. At night, Sundae sleeps in a doggie bed inside an ex-pen with her siblings. We have waited to train her on a harness and leash because of her vaccination status, so this has not begun at this time.
We adore this little girl, and know there is a perfect family out there for her. If you love to have fun and then cuddle, Sundae wants to be your BFF. Her vet work is now completed and she is ready for her forever home.
