UPDATE:
Nikki was spayed and had a dental yesterday. She had 7 dead puppies inside. Everyone, including two vets, thought she had just weaned a litter, rather than being pregnant.  If she hadn't been spayed immediately she would have died. She also lost 14 teeth or so and needs to have more pulled but couldn't stay under anesthesia any longer. She may lose her eye because it is not getting any better.  She is still alert and active, and a very loving, playful little dog!

Gosh, I just got here today and I don't even have a name yet. My head hurts so bad that I can't remember my other name. I guess my story starts when I was lying in the gutter and a kind lady stopped her car and picked me up. I couldn't walk, and everything hurt so bad, and my eye was throbbing and so was my head. We went to the vet and he sewed my eye shut to let it heal (I'm hoping I don't lose it, but I don't know yet) and gave me lots of medicine and stuck me with some needles.

I felt a tiny bit better when I woke up again, but then I heard a familiar voice, and it was my owners! They found out they'd have to pay the vet bill for me, and then they told everyone I wasn't their dog after all -- that I must be some other dog who had just weaned a litter of pups and was about 8 years old and had long whitish fur. When they left, people were whispering and I heard some of it -- I didn't have a home anymore, and they suspected that my owners had dumped me somewhere and I made my way back home. I don't know -- the last thing I remember was the wheel of that car when it hit me, and I'm really lucky it just barely got me, because I'm a little girl, only about five lbs, and I wouldn't have survived a direct hit.

So, you're wondering, how did I get to Columbus, OH? Well, the lady who found me drove me the whole way here from PA, 200 miles, just so that CRT could help me! She was very, very kind, and I'm hoping that maybe they'll name me after her. Her name is Nicole, and I like the name Nikki. I think it just suits me fine.

I'm still rather frightened, but I'm beginning to trust these people. I can't believe that Nicole brought me to them, and didn't even care that I was dirty and smelled, and was afraid. She still loved me right away, and took care of me. I'm a very lucky little dog, and when I get all healed up, have a nice bath, and my coat grows out, I'm going to be a very pretty girl, just like I was meant to be!

One thing I need pretty badly is Best Friends. Nicole is my Save-A-Chi donor, and she's made it possible for me to get everything I need right now, but I could sure use BFF's who would write to me and help me out monthly. If you'd like to be my Best Friend, just check it out on our website and sign right up!

I'm sleepy again now, and warm, and full. I haven't felt full in quite a while, and I think I'll just doze off....

Love, Nikki
